Beverage Construction Project Experience
From soft drinks to breweries, Clegg Food Projects has been supporting food and beverage manufacturers with construction projects for more than three decades.
Our experience
We design and build food and drinks factories, warehousing, and distribution centres to the highest standards. When it comes to providing construction services for the food and drink industry, Clegg Food Projects is the market leader.
Each project is unique, so it is essential to fully understand our client’s needs from the start. As beverage facility construction experts, we understand the importance of the ‘process’ and regularly support client teams to ensure the project is fully integrated. This approach puts the production, filling, packaging, and operational requirements at the heart of the project. It also limits the impact on production while the construction takes place.
The beverage sector is incredibly innovative as well as trend-driven, consistently launching new products and lines. This can result in high-volume production requirements or changes to existing manufacturing operations. By modifying or extending a building, we can help our customers to meet the new demands while catering for future alterations.
Step by step guide:
These are the detailed steps we take on each project that showcase our dynamic approach and close attention to detail:
- Beverage client details project brief and appoints Clegg Food Projects
- Our team can provide a full design, engineering and construction service – whether it’s a new beverage production site, extension, warehouse or storage and distribution centre
- Design work commences, tailored to the client’s specific needs
- We can prepare and submit a planning application for the project, if required
- Detailed design and early-stage procurement of specialist packages for the building continues
- The use of renewable and sustainable technologies is part of the design phase – including efficient plant, car charging points, solar panels and insulated buildings
- Manufacturing requirements, including smart technology, automation and robots are fully accounted for
- Full mechanical and electrical (M&E) services provided
- We identify critical path items and manage our programmes to ensure work starts on time and items are phased correctly
- Planning permission granted
- Extensive preparation of the site commences, including demolishing existing buildings if necessary
- Our in-depth knowledge of safe, clean, fire-rated and well-ventilated facilities for beverage production lines is crucial to the process
- Strict on-site safety protocols are agreed, maintained and observed
- Our team arrives on site and commences work, whether specialist build or installation
- There is close liaison with the client’s operations team and wider staff throughout the process
- We factor in the need to deal with ‘live’ sites to allow for complex beverage process equipment to be phased in
- Our team ensures a smooth transition to ‘business as usual’ throughout
- The project is completed to the client’s final approval
Beverage Design, Build & Construction
When designing and constructing a facility, each detail needs to be carefully considered to ensure the building is efficient and effective. This may include the utility requirements, drainage, cleaning regimes, temperature-controlled environments, and hygienic building fabric finishes. This ensures that every facility is fit for purpose.
Our beverage facility construction skills:
Clegg Food Projects has worked with some of the biggest names in the business for more than three decades – including Coca–Cola, Molson Coors Heineken, Camden Town Brewery, Beavertown Brewery, and many more.
Clegg Food Projects has constructed or expanded many drinks and beverage processing factories, warehouses, and distribution centres to the highest and safest standards. We are skilled in several project requirements:
Design and construction:
As the market-leading construction company in the booming food and drink sector, we have extensive experience of designing and building best in class facilities. We work closely with customers to understand their requirements for each room and processing area in the development, considering the needs of this fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry.
Installations:
We understand that with beverage facility construction, the ‘process’ must come first – putting the production, filling, packaging, and operational needs at the heart of each project. We understand the legislation and compliance challenges – and the high-volume production requirements – your business must tackle.
Conversions:
Clegg Food Projects often converts existing warehouses into beverage processing facilities – and are specialists at working on live operational sites. We deal with all construction and building services installations, offer internal fit-outs and consult on relocations to other premises that need fitting out.
Design support:
As specialists in manufacturing and the food and drink sectors, we can offer our industry-leading factory design services through our in-house team and partner practices. Our drinks and brewery construction team understands that the sector demand meticulously designed facilities to suit a company’s individual needs.
Extensions and refurbishments:
We use our sector knowledge and technical expertise to refurbish or extend your existing beverage facility. We are skilled in the expansion of existing factories and warehouses and can refresh and update a range of premises, including historic buildings that are a popular choice for breweries.
Live sites:
The Clegg team plans its work to minimise disruption to operations and costs while also maintaining people and product safety. We are conscious of maintaining the need for safe and hygienic production levels, so that the drink production continues throughout each phase.
Flooring and drainage:
With the need for heavy specialist manufacturing equipment in a beverage factory or brewery, we can take account of increased floor loadings, particularly where vibrating equipment is required – and can lay new floors or upgrade existing ones. We understand the ‘wet’ processes in drinks factories that have specific drainage needs.
We also create a safe environment for the use of chemicals, ensuring they are efficiently contained to prevent leakage. This might include specialist flooring, such as resin, that is resistant to chemicals and heavy industrial uses. The drainage considerations need to ensure they are fit for purpose and can handle the varying concentrations of materials such as acids, sugars and trade effluent.
Hygienic walling
We provide ‘clean room’ environments and ultra-hygienic building fabric finishes, such as white-walling installations, to account for stringent food and drink safety standards, including anti-static technology, and temperature-controlled rooms. We can also fit temporary hygienic screening whilst construction works are undertaken.
