This year we entered two teams into the 2022 Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge, and we’re pleased to have raised over £2,400 for The Greggs Foundation and Crohn’s & Colitis UK.
The Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge is an adventure race, which sees some of the biggest food companies – like the Royal Marines and the Brownlee Brothers – enter and compete in a triathlon style event for their chosen charities.
The event runs every two years, and the location is guarded a secret until two weeks before the event starts – this year the challenge raised a combined total of more than £215,000.
This years challenge was in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales and included mountain biking, hiking, and canoeing across the Brecon Beacons and to the top of Pen y Fan South Wales highest mountain, in challenging weather conditions.
Our two teams, Team Clegg and Bacon and Team Clegg on Toast, cycled, walked, and canoed to raise vital funds for their charities.
Oliver Jenkins, part of team Clegg and Bacon, said:
“We’ve been taking part in the Samworth Charity Challenge for more than ten years so we were excited to get in involved once again. This year was particularly tough, but we all pulled together to complete the task! Both charities are close to our hearts so it was very important to us to raise as much as we could.
“We work closely with The Greggs Foundation through its Breakfast Club, which provides breakfast to children who need it most, and we want to continue to support them. Crohn’s and Colitis UK is a very close personal connection to the team, one of the team members, Lisa Robinson’s sister suffers with Crohn’s.”
Since its inception in 2007, the challenge has raised more than £2.4 million for many charitable causes.
A big thank you to Samworth for organising such a fantastic event and we have huge appreciation for all our sponsors and donators. We now look forward to the next challenge in 2024!
