We’re proud to announce we have completed the Samworth Brothers Challenge raising £4,965 for the Greggs Breakfast Club – a flagship programme for The Greggs Foundation. This is our ninth challenge going back to 2007!
The challenge, a 10-hour triathlon-style endurance event, is hosted by the national food manufacturer every two years and tests the challenger’s cunning, strength, and agility. This year we entered two teams, ‘Clegg-It’ and ‘Clegg-Up’, and we passed our fundraising target with flying colours.
On 18 May, Paul Meyer, Cian Webb, Neil Clennell, Anton Newell, William Kilby-Jenkins, Nigel Keal, Stefan White, and Oliver Jenkins travelled to Ambleside in Cumbria to reach various checkpoints over mountains, lakes and through rivers, completing the ‘tough’ challenge level. Overall, team ‘Clegg-It’ came 6th and ‘Clegg-Up’ 16th out of 42, which is an amazing achievement for both teams.
The Greggs Foundation, which is also our charity of the year, is a network of more than 900 Breakfast Clubs all over the UK, helping to feed more than 62,000 pupils every day. We’ve been working with Greggs for more than twenty years and supporting the Breakfast Clubs since 2019 .The tangible impact the breakfast club has on thousands of local children is incredibly inspiring to all of our team.
Oliver Jenkins, business development manager at Clegg Food Projects, said: “This is our ninth Samworth Brothers Challenge, and it goes without saying that it’s an amazing thing to be a part of. It has raised more than £2.4 million since it started and knowing our company has been able to contribute to such an extraordinary amount is a testament to our commitment to charity.
“We take great pride in raising money for the Gregg Foundation, specifically the Greggs Breakfast Club, and it was great to get stuck into the challenge and fundraise in such a fun and formidable way.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has generously donated and my fellow colleagues from Clegg Food Projects and Clegg Construction who took part.”
Clegg Food Projects was a key sponsor for both events, with more than 100 teams participating in the challenge, raising more than £400K for more than 50 charities over the course of two weekends.
