Overview CMR Surgical project
Construction is now complete for the new 75,000 sq ft factory for a global robotics company, CMR Surgical (CMR) in Cambridge, which develops and manufactures Versius® Surgical Robotic Systems that is helping to revolutionise surgery around the world.
Clegg Food Projects was appointed as principal contractor for the project to design and build a facility for state-of-the-art robotic manufacturing for medical surgery. The building includes clean rooms, assembly areas, advanced engineering, modern office space, a warehouse and despatch areas.
Located in Ely, Cambridgeshire, the factory will enable upscaled manufacturing processes to meet the increasing global demand for Versius. The system has been used to complete over 10,000 surgical procedures, and is in use in hospitals across UK, Europe, India, Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, and the Middle East.
The project, which incorporates sustainable features such as wildflower meadows, extensive tree planting, bug hotels, bat boxes, rainwater harvesting, electric vehicle charging points and PV arrays.
Once appointed, the Clegg design and construction team participated in coordination meetings with the CMR Surgical team and their specialist suppliers and consultants.
The construction sequence was continually updated and modified as the client finalised the details of the operations. Access routes and installation and commissioning plans were jointly agreed, and equipment was installed as the main construction works continued to meet the overall project timescale.
